Anyhow, went here http://www.samsung.com/au/support/service-centre/ to find my nearest Samsung Authorised Service Centre. Yay! Bondi Junction, real close.
Dropped in. Happy person bounds up! Oh. Yeah. No we can't do anything about that. Aren't you a service centre? Nah mate, you need to go into the City.
Ok, trek into the George Street centre a few days later. Another happy person bounds up! Hello! Oh. You'll need to see the "guy". Wait a while then the guy turns up. Looks like he hates his job. Doesn't even really look at the phone, just says "physical damage" like some sort of voodoo spell, hoping I'll either bugger off or buy a new phone.
Aren't you the engineer? No, we have to send it off to the engineer to get assessed. How long will that take? Oh 5 days or so. And they'll wipe the phone. But the screen is lifting off! Physical damage, physical damage, physical damage.
So if I send it off, what might happen? Well they might repair it for free, or they may charge you to repair it. Physical damage and all. Surely in your experience as the guy and all, you've see this before and know the score? The guy's eyes go out of focus, he stops talking, maybe even breathing, and waits for me to get bored and go. I get bored and go.
Tried Telstra in desperation. Oh. Well it's a Samsung issue. Want new phone and contract? Can I trade this in? No - physical damage. Cheers mate.
- Have someone at these "Authorised Service Centres" who actually was capable of assessing a phone and immediately make a call on what the warranty situation was. Gasp.
- Make deals with local reputable service centres (you know, the ones that can actually repair things) and give me a deal to get the phone fixed.
- My fault, OK I'll pay but know that it's getting repaired properly and quickly.
- Their fault, screen lifting off (did I mention?) they give me a note to say to fix it for free and Samsung foots the bill.
